The Castle

High St, Hadleigh, Benfleet SS7 2PB, UK – 01702 559181

We arrived at The Castle at approx 5pm on a Friday afternoon and the car park was almost full, but that's really because this is a popular pub, in a central location. My wife and I found an available table in the conservatory area, make sure to take note of your table number and return to the bar to place your food order and get your drinks. The food arrived amazingly quickly, it was piping hot and tasty and all the staff were polite and pleasant. Adjacent tables were being cleaned as we ate our food and it was nice to see pub staff clean the tables so thoroughly, we've been to some places where there's a random squirt of cleaning fluid somewhere near the table and a token swipe of the cloth over a small area of table. This is an ideal place for decent pub food, it's got a good atmosphere and front projectors and large screen tv's for live sport. It's has improved considerably and as long as they can hang on to their current staff it's worth a visit. The only reason I didn't award 5 stars was because the blinds in the conservatory area needed a really good clean but not really much to worry about. Thanks for reading 👍🙂

Disappointing visit today for 3/4. Long wait for food despite being just one of two tables placing an order, burger buns burnt, incorrect order received, stock of cutlery and condiments low. Excellent childs chick wrap, fresh n tasty. Good value but disappointing food for 3 of us today. Looking forward to being 60 so I can order from this menu xXx

Hoy & Helmet

24 - 32 High St, South Benfleet, Benfleet SS7 1NA, UK – 01268 792307

Found this pub by chance on Sunday. The staff was very helpful going so far as to go to the local shop so my nephew could have beans with his fish fingers. They on do roast on Sunday. A good choice & brought out quickly & very hot & plentiful. The waitress was unobtrusive but quickly brought over any additional drinks when asked for. Would definitely go back

It's decent, the food's pleasant and it has a nice big beer garden. They have TV screens showing sport, plus a big screen area for the good stuff, and plenty of drink choices. Near to Benfleet station, with everything you need from a pub. Job done...
